Dsseldorf: Train services resumed on the railway line between Dsseldorf and Duisburg in western Germany, following a two-day suspension caused by an act of sabotage targeting railway infrastructure. A spokesperson for Deutsche Bahn confirmed that the line was reopened after completion of essential repairs and successful technical inspections. The disruption began on Thursday when deliberate fires damaged critical cables controlling signal systems and power converters, halting operations on one of Germany’s busiest lines, which serves more than 620 passenger trains daily.
According to Bahrain News Agency, Herbert Reul, Minister of the Interior of North Rhine-Westphalia, accused far-left extremist groups of orchestrating the attack. He said that a group calling itself ‘Kommando Angry Birds’ – previously linked to similar acts of sabotage in the region – had claimed responsibility in a message currently under investigation.
Speaking at a press conference, Reul warned that such acts aim to push the country back to a pre-industrial era, and noted a concerning increase in the activity of these groups in recent months.
