BRCS Hosts Advanced First Aid Trainer Course with ICRC Collaboration

Manama: The Bahrain Red Crescent Society (BRCS), in collaboration with the International Committee of the Red Cross (ICRC) in Kuwait, organized an advanced training course aimed at qualifying a new group of first aid trainers. The four-day course, held at the BRCS headquarters, sought to enhance community awareness and build capacity for rapid and effective emergency response.

According to Bahrain News Agency, the first phase of the course focused on practical and medical first aid skills, including cardiopulmonary resuscitation (CPR) for adults, children, and infants, as well as the use of automated external defibrillators (AEDs). Participants were also trained in handling cardiac emergencies, airway obstructions, and a range of medical and environmental emergencies such as heat exhaustion, heatstroke, drowning, and complications related to diabetes, asthma, and epilepsy. Additional modules covered the classification and treatment of burns, types of poisoning, and basic procedures for managing fractures, bleeding, and spinal injuries.

The second phase addressed the instructional and pedagogical aspects of trainer preparation. Participants were introduced to the fundamentals of effective training, learning styles, and communication techniques suitable for different trainee profiles. The course also included the cognitive, technical, and emotional competencies required of first aid trainers. It concluded with practical projects, performance evaluations, and feedback sessions.

Fatima Ahmed, Head of the BRCS First Aid Committee, said the course achieved its objectives by preparing a qualified group of trainers capable of promoting first aid knowledge and supporting national efforts to enhance emergency preparedness. She noted that the initiative reflects BRCS’s strategic commitment to building a skilled network of first aid instructors who can deliver life-saving knowledge and raise awareness across the Kingdom.
