Death Toll from Uganda Landslide Climbs To 28.


Bulambuli: The death toll from the landslide in Bulambuli District, Eastern Uganda, has climbed to 28, even as rescue efforts continue. Police say that five more bodies have been retrieved from the mud after the landslide – triggered by heavy rains – hit multiple villages in Buluganya Sub-County last week.

According to Oman News Agency, Uganda Police Spokesperson Kituuma Rusoke said that all the five victims were residents of Masugu village. Search operations are ongoing as joint teams, including the Red Cross and local authorities, work to recover more bodies, according to Kituuma.

The disaster has displaced many families and brought widespread grief to the region. State Minister for Disaster Preparedness Lillian Aber highlighted the government’s focus on relief efforts, stressing the importance of mitigating disaster impacts and supporting community recovery.
