Muscat: The Academic Board of the University of Technology and Applied Sciences (UTAS) convened for its inaugural meeting of the 2024/2025 academic year, under the leadership of Dr. Mahad bin Said Ba’Owain, Minister of Labour and Chairman of the UTAS Board. This meeting marked a significant step forward in the university’s strategic planning and policy implementation.
According to Oman News Agency, the Board delved into a proposal for modern policies designed to protect sensitive data and assets. The proposed policies aim to establish guidelines and procedures to uphold the confidentiality, integrity, and availability of information, underscoring UTAS’s dedication to implementing best practices in information security and enhancing cybersecurity measures.
The Board also endorsed a comprehensive risk management policy. This initiative is intended to bolster institutional performance, enhance the university’s capacity to tackle potential challenges, and raise awareness among university members regarding security protocols.
In a move to strengthen administrative governance, the Board approved the formation of an Audit and Review Committee. This committee will be tasked with overseeing the Internal Audit Department’s activities, striving to achieve greater transparency across financial, administrative, and academic operations.
Discussions at the meeting also included the admission process for children of non-Omani university employees, with specific criteria laid out to ensure fair educational opportunities. This policy aims to standardize procedures, including the issuance of travel tickets, to ensure equal access to education.
Reflecting on previous resolutions from a meeting held on May 26, 2024, the Board praised the initiatives undertaken to implement procedures related to Master’s programs at UTAS. These measures are set to continue in the current academic year.
The meeting also highlighted the graduation of 6,292 male and female students from UTAS in the 2024/2025 academic year, marking another milestone for the institution.
