Muscat: The Sultanate of Oman, through its Ministry of Agriculture, Fisheries and Water Resources, and the Food and Agriculture Organization of the United Nations (FAO), engaged in a session of talks today.
According to Oman News Agency, the session centered around topics of mutual interest, including the development of modern agricultural technologies, efficient water resource management, and the enhancement of aquaculture. Discussions also focused on supporting innovation and investment in the agricultural, livestock, and fisheries sectors to boost added value and improve production efficiency.
The session was led by Dr. Saud Hamad Al Habsi, Minister of Agriculture, Fisheries and Water Resources, and Dr. Qu Dongyu, Director-General of the Food and Agriculture Organization of the United Nations (FAO). Both parties explored opportunities for implementing joint programs and initiatives in scientific research, knowledge transfer, and capacity building, aligning with global trends toward achieving food security and sustainable development.
The Minister highlighted the strong relations between Oman and the FAO, noting ongoing development in sectors such as agriculture, fisheries, and water resources. He expressed Oman's desire to expand joint cooperation to enhance agricultural and livestock production, achieve sustainability, and support the food security system.
The Director-General of the FAO commended the developmental progress in Oman under the leadership of His Majesty Sultan Haitham bin Tarik. He reaffirmed the organization's dedication to strengthening its partnership with Oman and supporting efforts to achieve food security and sustainability.
The session included participation from ministry undersecretaries, several ministry officials, the FAO Representative to Oman, and various officials from the organization.
