Muscat: The Wilayat of Ibri in A’Dhahirah Governorate has witnessed a notable rise in tourist and commercial activity during the months of July and August. Serving as a crucial transit and rest stop for travelers from GCC countries en route to Dhofar Governorate, this increased activity has led to a significant boost in occupancy rates at the region’s hotels and accommodation facilities.
According to Oman News Agency, Ali Khamis Al Sidairi, the Assistant Director at the Directorate of Heritage and Tourism in A’Dhahirah Governorate, emphasized the surge in the hospitality sector during the Khareef Dhofar (monsoon) season. Occupancy rates at several establishments range from 85 to 100 percent, underscoring the heightened demand during this period.
Al Sidairi highlighted that the number of licensed hotels and lodging facilities in A’Dhahirah Governorate increased to 55 by the end of July 2025, up from 48 at the end of 2024, reflecting a growth rate of 14.5 percent. He projected that this number is poised to rise further by the year’s end.
He also noted the significant role played by the Rub-el-Khali border crossing, linking Oman to Saudi Arabia, in promoting overland tourism. This development has fostered promising investment opportunities along the route, including fuel stations, quick service centers, and various hospitality ventures, thereby enriching the governorate’s economic value. The increased commercial activity has been evident in markets, commercial centers, restaurants, cafes, and other projects, along with a noticeable uptick in traffic, indicating lucrative investment prospects for young Omanis and creating seasonal and permanent employment opportunities across vital sectors.
