Guizhou: Heavy rains battered parts of Guizhou Province in southwestern China over the past two days, triggering floods and forcing the evacuation of nearly 10,000 people, state media reported.
According to Oman News Agency, the hardest-hit areas included Qianxi City, Zunyi City, and Changshun County. In Qianxi, continuous downpours affected all 30 towns in the city, with five of them experiencing exceptionally torrential rainfall. Authorities activated round-the-clock emergency response operations. Emergency teams have so far evacuated 1,377 people from 491 households and rescued more than 50 stranded individuals.
In Changshun County, more than 3,000 residents from nearly 1,000 families in villages were moved to safety after a power outage disrupted the reservoir's operation and caused it to overflow. China's Ministry of Water Resources and the China Meteorological Administration jointly issued a red alert - the highest warning level - warning of a high risk of flash floods in parts of southeastern Guizhou.
In response, authorities in the Qiandongnan Miao and Dong Autonomous Prefecture stepped up monitoring of 27 rivers and mobilized thousands of officials and flood-control personnel. As many as 4,582 residents from 1,322 households in Qiandongnan had been preemptively evacuated, while evacuation operations were underway for another 21,754 people from 7,213 households.
