Muscat:Oman Animal and Plant Genetic Resources Center 'Mawarid', under the Research and Innovation Authority (RIA), held a workshop to discuss establishing the technical framework for a national genetic resources database in Oman.
According to Oman News Agency, the workshop addressed national needs and stakeholder requirements, focusing on data types, sources, and standards for documentation and classification. It also proposed a preliminary framework for data governance, security, and access management.
The event also covered the technical criteria for designing the national database and mechanisms for integration and information exchange among relevant parties, ensuring information security and scalability. Participants included several national entities involved in genetic resources management.
This initiative is part of broader efforts to consolidate data, develop an integrated system for data management and exchange, and support biodiversity conservation, scientific research, and innovation. It aims to enable evidence-based decision-making and explore economic and investment opportunities related to Oman's genetic resources.
