Muscat: The Holy Quran Radio Station from the Sultanate of Oman is set to celebrate the 20th anniversary of its broadcast launch tomorrow, marking a significant milestone in its mission to disseminate the teachings and recitations of the Holy Quran.
According to Oman News Agency, the station, which began its journey in 2006 with seven hours of daily broadcasting, expanded to a 24-hour service by January 2014. It now operates across 28 transmission stations throughout Oman and offers satellite broadcasting and access via the 'Ayn' platform, allowing listeners to tune in from around the world.
The station was founded on a vision of promoting the values of moderation, balance, and tolerance in Islam, reflecting the core principles of Omani society. It serves as a platform for fostering understanding and harmony among different Islamic schools of thought and among people.
Ahmed Muhana Al Kindi, Director of the Holy Quran Radio Department at the Ministry of Information, highlights the station's commitment over the past two decades to spread the Quran's teachings and uphold the values of Islam. He notes that the station's content has evolved, incorporating diverse Quranic recitations and specialized programs on Quranic studies, thanks to modern broadcasting platforms.
The station's library boasts recordings from esteemed reciters across the Islamic world, including complete Quranic narrations broadcast exclusively by the station. It also supports Omani reciters by recording and auditing their recitations with the help of a dedicated Reciter Selection Committee.
The Holy Quran Radio Station has achieved notable recognition, receiving the highest satisfaction score in a public opinion poll conducted by the National Centre for Statistics and Information in 2025. Additionally, several of its programs have won Gulf and Arab awards for their content.
Over the years, the station has expanded its programming from eight to over 22 programs, with highlights including "Al I'rab lil-Quran Al Karim" and "Rawa'i' Al Qutoof," which delve into the Quran's grammatical and value-based aspects. Programs like "Hadith Al Mu'talif" and various children's programs have further enriched its content offering.
Al Kindi emphasizes the station's active digital presence, with growing followers on platforms like X, Instagram, Facebook, and YouTube, and particularly on the "Ayn" platform, which has 369,438 followers.
The station's influence extends to academia, where numerous studies have been conducted on its programs, contributing to scholarly discussions at conferences and within academic institutions globally.
