Salalah: The second edition of the “In-Country Value (ICV) and Responsible Procurement Forum,” organized today by OQ Basic Industries (OQBi) in Salalah, discussed ICV, enhanced communication with local companies, and the role of SMEs in the supply chain. The Forum was held under the auspices of Dr. Saleh Said Masan, Undersecretary of the Ministry of Commerce, Industry, and Investment Promotion for Commerce and Industry.
According to Oman News Agency, the Forum is part of OQ Basic Industries’ efforts to promote its ICV programs, emphasizing communication with local companies, and strengthening the role of SMEs in the supply chain. The Forum also aims to solidify the concept of ICV and enhance the application of Responsible Procurement as a main driver for supporting the national economy and enabling entrepreneurs and SMEs to grow and compete.
The Forum reviewed the company’s key achievements and efforts from 2023 to 2025 in supporting national products. Spending on “Made in Oman” products reached $6.78 million (RO 2.61 million), in addition to $34.91 million (RO 13.44 million) directed toward SMEs, and $24.05 million (RO 9.26 million) to support entrepreneurs holding the “Riyada” card. This support has contributed to developing their businesses and enhancing their readiness to compete. Furthermore, $13.04 million (RO 5.02 million) was allocated to support Omani employment through contracting companies. In terms of direct awarding, the total value of contracts assigned to local establishments reached RO 26.91 million ($69.96 million), covering 46 contracts for both SMEs and entrepreneurs. This boosts their active participation in the basic industries sector and supports their growth and capacity to provide qualitative services.
The Forum included a visual presentation on ICV and an exhibition featuring several sections that highlighted Responsible Procurement and ICV, along with a health and safety segment, and a tribute to the companies and entities that contributed to the Forum’s success.
