Dollar Holds Steady Near 18-Month High Amid Geopolitical Concerns

Tunis:The dollar remained stable at the beginning of Asian trading today, following a holiday for some US markets, as geopolitical uncertainties persist and markets look forward to new economic data that could influence the Federal Reserve’s interest rate decisions.

According to Oman News Agency, the dollar index, which evaluates the US currency's performance against six major currencies, was at 102.56 points in subdued Asian trading. This comes after the index rose approximately 0.3 percent in the previous session.

The dollar continues to trade near its peak levels since April last year, bolstered by rising energy costs and increasing US Treasury yields. Meanwhile, disruptions in the French bond market have negatively impacted the euro.

The euro held steady at $1.1159, and the British pound was stable at $1.3209. The dollar saw a slight decline of about 0.1 percent against the Japanese yen, trading at 158.435 yen.

In offshore trading, the Chinese yuan remained near its highest levels in four years, steady at 6.6950 yuan against the dollar. The Australian dollar fell 0.1 percent to $0.6956, and the New Zealand dollar dropped 0.1 percent to $0.5582, close to its lowest point in 18 months.
