Cancer Care, Research Center Receives International Accreditation in Cardio-Oncology

Muscat: The Sultan Qaboos Comprehensive Cancer Care and Research Center at the University Medical City has been granted accreditation as a Center of Global Excellence in Cardio-Oncology by the International Cardio-Oncology Society (IC-OS). This accreditation is the first of its kind in the Middle East and only the second across the continents of Asia and Africa.

According to Oman News Agency, this recognition highlights the Center’s advanced standing in providing integrated care for patients who suffer from cardiac complications related to cancer treatment. It achieves this through the application of precise medical evaluation programs, the use of the latest cardiac imaging technologies, and the development of advanced treatment protocols that consider the specificity of each case. It also reflects the commitment to scientific research that contributes to enriching global knowledge in this precise specialty.

This accreditation is awarded to institutions that achieve sustainable excellence in clinical practice and scientific research according to the standards of the International Cardio-Oncology Society, which is the global reference authority in the field of cardio-oncology, in collaboration with the American and European Cardiac Societies.

This achievement enhances Oman’s position as a regional center for specialized precision medicine. It opens broader horizons for research collaboration and medical training with global institutions, thereby supporting national capacity-building and the transfer of modern knowledge in specialized fields.

This accreditation aligns with the strategic goals of the University Medical City, which works to develop the healthcare system in Oman through the integration of medical services, education, and scientific research. This is consistent with the aspirations of Oman Vision 2040 to enhance service quality and invest in knowledge and innovation within the health sector.
