Workshop in Muscat Focuses on Environmental Management of Mining Activities

Muscat:A workshop titled "Sustainable Crushers, Environmental Policies and Standards, and Best Practices," began today, aiming to review experiences in the environmental management of mining activities.

According to Oman News Agency, the event is organized by the Environment Authority under the leadership of Eng. Sulaiman Nasser Al Akhzami, Vice Chairman of the Environment Authority. The workshop seeks to promote sustainable practices in the crushers and quarries sector, aiming to reduce environmental impacts, enhance operational efficiency, and encourage responsible use of natural resources.

The two-day event brings together over 100 experts, specialists, and representatives from various sectors, including government entities, the private sector, civil society, and research institutions. Discussions focus on environmental policies, legislation, and standards regulating crusher activities, with the goal of reaching practical outcomes that support the development of the sector and improve its environmental and operational practices.

The workshop is structured around three main pillars. The first addresses frameworks and procedures related to mining and crushing activities, emphasizing the integration of roles among authorities and improving clarity in environmental requirements. The second pillar reviews national best practices in crusher sustainability, highlighting initiatives that reduce environmental impacts and enhance resource management. The third pillar focuses on environmental standards to improve operational efficiency, such as reducing emissions, dust, and noise, and improving waste and water management.

Panel sessions also explore key environmental standards for sustainable crushers and discuss facilities and incentives to encourage establishments to adopt advanced environmental practices. This initiative is part of the Environment Authority's broader efforts to foster partnerships, develop scientifically grounded solutions, and support the sustainability of the crushers and quarries sector, while balancing economic development and environmental protection in Oman.
