Muscat: SalamAir, the low-cost carrier of the Sultanate of Oman, will begin operating its first direct flights between Muscat and Kigali in the Republic of Rwanda tomorrow, marking a significant step in expanding its destination network in Africa. This development highlights SalamAir's commitment to enhancing air connectivity between Oman and key international markets.
According to Oman News Agency, SalamAir commemorated this occasion with a ceremony at Muscat International Airport. The event saw the presence of senior officials and representatives from SalamAir, Oman Airports, the Civil Aviation Authority, and the Embassy of the Republic of Rwanda in Oman, as well as partners from the aviation sector and representatives from the travel, tourism, and media industries.
Kigali, recognized as one of East Africa's fastest-growing destinations, boasts a vibrant tourism sector and a burgeoning business environment. Its strategic location makes it an essential gateway to the region. The introduction of direct flights is expected to bolster air connectivity between Oman and Rwanda, fostering new opportunities in tourism, trade, investment, and cultural exchange.
SalamAir plans to operate two flights weekly on this new route, offering travelers a convenient and economical travel option between Muscat and Kigali. The flights will also provide easy onward connections through its expanding network across the Middle East, Asia, Africa, and Europe.
General Dan Munyuza, Ambassador of Rwanda to Oman, highlighted the significance of these direct flights as a milestone in enhancing air connectivity. He emphasized the potential for increased passenger, business, and goods movement between the two nations, anticipating strengthened bilateral relations and enhanced communication between their peoples.
Hamood Khalfan Al Busaidi, Honorary Consul of Rwanda to Oman, described the launch of direct flights as a landmark achievement in the growing relations between the countries. He noted that the strategic route would not only enhance connectivity but also open new prospects for trade, tourism, and investment, reflecting a shared commitment to bilateral cooperation and sustainable growth.
Adrian Hamilton-Manns, CEO of SalamAir, remarked that the launch of flights to Kigali marks an important milestone in the airline's growth, as it continues to expand its network into promising markets. He emphasized Rwanda's potential as a vibrant destination rich in opportunities, aligning with Oman Vision 2040's tourism ambitions.
Nasser Ahmed Al Sharji, Acting CEO of Oman Airports, reiterated the company's role in providing a supportive environment for airline partners, reinforcing Muscat International Airport's position as a global gateway.
