Thursday, 19 February 2026 Marked as the Beginning of Ramadan 1447 AH

Muscat: The Main Committee for Moon Sighting has announced that Thursday, 19 February 2026, will be the first day of Ramadan 1447 AH. This decision was reached following confirmed astronomical evidence indicating that the crescent moon would set on Tuesday, 17 February 2026, corresponding to the 29th of Sha'ban 1447 AH, before or at sunset in all governorates of the Sultanate of Oman. The committee emphasized that the sighting of the crescent moon on this day is astronomically impossible.

According to Oman News Agency, the Committee highlighted the established principle of not accepting reports that contradict observable reality and scientific certainty when astronomical facts confirm the impossibility of sighting. Thus, it was declared that Wednesday, 18 February 2026, would complete the month of Sha'ban 1447 AH, and the holy month of Ramadan would commence on the following day.

On this occasion, the Ministry of Endowments and Religious Affairs extended its congratulations and blessings to His Majesty Sultan Haitham bin Tarik. The ministry expressed wishes for enduring health and well-being for His Majesty and prosperity for the Sultanate of Oman. The ministry also conveyed wishes for dignity and honor for the loyal citizens of Oman and prosperity for Muslims across the world. It implored Allah to accept the fasting, prayers, and righteous deeds of all during this sacred month.

Wishing everyone well this year and every year!
