An informed local source in Najaf Governorate announced that an official envoy from the UNAMI mission in Iraq delivered the office of the Supreme Authority, Mr. Al-Sistani, expresses its solidarity with the Muslim community and its condemnation of acts of intolerance, violence and Islamophobia that exacerbate tensions and contribute to discrimination and extremism.
The office of the Supreme Reference, Mr. Al-Sistani, had sent a letter to the Secretary-General of the United Nations, Antonio Guterres, in which he called on the United Nations to take effective steps towards the attack on the Holy Qur’an. In its letter, the Supreme Religious Authority stressed its condemnation and denunciation of what happened and called for preventing the recurrence of similar incidents and prompting countries to reconsider the legislation that allows their occurrence, and calls for establishing the values of peaceful coexistence between followers of different religions and intellectual approaches based on caring for rights and mutual respect for all.
