Muscat: The Sultanate of Oman today marked International Translation Day, which falls on 30 September every year. A symposium to this effect was held in Muscat today under the auspices of Dr. Jokha bint Abdullah Al Shukaili, CEO of the Oman Authority for Academic Accreditation and Quality Assurance of Education.
According to Oman News Agency, the event, titled “Translation: From Theory to Practice,” aimed to develop the skills of translators and related professionals, allowing them to exchange expertise. The symposium was organized by the Oman National Commission for Education, Culture and Sciences in cooperation with the GCC Centre for Translation, Arabization and Promotion of the Arabic Language, and Al Zahra College.
The symposium gathered translation professionals, students, representatives of publishing houses, and other interested parties. It sought to build partnerships among translation stakeholders in the Sultanate of Oman, improve the standard of Omani translators, and enhance their active presence in the regional and international arenas.
Additionally, the symposium explored mechanisms for utilizing the latest technologies, notably artificial intelligence (AI), to keep pace with ongoing developments in the global translation industry.
