Salalah: An awareness symposium titled “Governance and Its Role in Protecting Public Funds and Enhancing Transparency” was held today in the Wilayat of Salalah, Dhofar Governorate. The event was organized by the State Audit Institution at the Sultan Qaboos Youth Compound for Culture and Entertainment.
According to Oman News Agency, the symposium’s opening was presided over by HH Sayyid Marwan Turki Al Said, Governor of Dhofar. Sheikh Ghosn Hilal Al Alawi, Chairman of the State Audit Institution, delivered a keynote speech emphasizing the symposium’s significance in reinforcing the principles of the state of law and institutions. He highlighted the critical role of governance in enhancing transparency and safeguarding public funds. Al Alawi stressed that governance serves as a fundamental pillar for regulating relationships among various parties and ensuring the optimal utilization of national resources. He emphasized that protecting public funds is a collective national responsibility.
Al Alawi further explained that the symposium provided an opportunity to exchange visions and expertise, as well as to learn about best practices and successful experiences. This aligns with the National Integrity Promotion Plan 2022-2030 and Oman Vision 2040.
The symposium’s agenda featured four working papers that explored different facets of governance. The event aimed to underscore the fundamental concepts of governance, raise awareness about its importance, and highlight its role in improving institutional performance and protecting public resources. Additionally, the symposium reviewed best practices implemented by the participating entities to foster an institutional environment characterized by efficiency and transparency, thereby contributing to the protection of public funds.
This symposium is part of the State Audit Institution’s ongoing efforts to enhance partnership and institutional integration among various bodies. Such initiatives facilitate the exchange of expertise and unify efforts towards adopting best practices in instilling a culture of governance, promoting transparency, and raising oversight awareness in the Sultanate of Oman.
