State Audit Institution Presents Comprehensive 2024 Annual Report to HM The Sultan

Muscat: Sheikh Ghuson bin Hilal Al Alawi, Chairman of the State Audit Institution (SAI), has officially presented the SAI 2024 Annual Report to His Majesty Sultan Haitham bin Tarik, detailing the institution’s accomplishments and activities over the past year.

According to Oman News Agency, the report highlights SAI’s dedication to fulfilling its national role by efficiently executing its responsibilities and promoting partnerships that support sustainable development goals. The report was also distributed to the Council of Ministers, the State Council, and the Shura Council, in compliance with Article (66) of the Basic Law of the State and Article (29) of the State Audit Law.

The report encompasses various topics resulting from SAI’s audits of government units, authorities, and companies, all conducted according to the 2024 annual audit plan. The audits were aligned with Oman Vision 2040 and guided by the standards of the International Organization of Supreme Audit Institutions (INTOSAI). SAI completed 225 audit tasks, resulting in 172 reports, and communicated findings to relevant entities, which took corrective measures in response.

The report also addresses SAI’s efforts to uphold integrity, including statistics on violations and compliance with the United Nations Convention against Corruption. Additionally, it details SAI’s involvement in reviewing draft laws and participating in international meetings and committees. SAI’s commitment to public awareness is reflected in its numerous training programs and activities focused on protecting public funds.

Furthermore, the report reviews key audits within government units, including the State’s final account for 2024 and various sectors like energy, minerals, and environment. It also acknowledges SAI’s effective handling of 1,378 complaints and reports, with a 90% resolution rate, and highlights SAI’s recognition by the United Nations Economic and Social Commission for Western Asia (ESCWA) for its best practices.

Finally, the report showcases SAI’s media and awareness initiatives aimed at promoting ethical practices, with 187 programs and events conducted in 2024 to enhance institutional and societal awareness.
