Second Archery Championship Begins in Oman

Muscat: The second edition of the Archery Championship kicked off today, organized by the Ministry of Culture, Sports and Youth in collaboration with Oman Archery Community at Al Amal Club. The event sees the participation of 203 male and female competitors from various categories, representing all governorates of the Sultanate of Oman.

According to Oman News Agency, the championship began with a foundational course for archery referees, spanning two days. This course is supervised by International Referee Liliane Ayoubi and Coach Khawla Ali Al Hinai, Head of Oman Archery Community, with 51 trainees taking part. The course is designed to prepare and qualify national cadres specialized in managing and organizing championships and events in line with approved technical and officiating standards. This initiative aims to enhance the quality of sporting competitions and develop the archery ecosystem in Oman.

The championship will unfold over three days, starting the day after tomorrow, Friday, and concluding on Sunday. The event is held under the patronage of Hisham Jumaa Al Sinani, Director General of Care and Development at the Ministry of Culture, Sports and Youth. The competition follows a format that includes classification rounds, elimination rounds, and finals. It is conducted under strict technical and officiating supervision, adhering to high standards of safety and organization, ensuring a fair competitive environment for the participants.

The championship features competitions in the Olympic recurve bow at a distance of 20 metres, freestyle bow at 20 metres, and traditional bow at 20 metres. Additionally, there is a category for persons with disabilities at a distance of 10 metres. Competitors will vie for the top three positions across the various categories, with winners being awarded gold, silver, and bronze medals.
