The Permanent Mission of the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia to the United Nations and other international organizations in Geneva participated in the general debate on the provision of technical assistance and capacity building at the UN Human Rights Council. The mission welcomed the issuance of the twelfth report of the Yemen National Commission to Investigate Alleged Violations of Human Rights and emphasized the importance of continuing to intensify the Office of the High Commissioner for Human Rights’ (OHCHR’s) support for the commission.
In the Kingdom’s statement before the 57th session of the Human Rights Council, Asya Baakdah, the head of the Human Rights Section at the Saudi Permanent Mission, affirmed the Kingdom’s keenness for the return of peace to brotherly Yemen. She also expressed the Kingdom’s support for all efforts to resolve the crisis, alleviate the humanitarian suffering of the Yemeni people, and push towards reaching political solutions to restore security and stability to Yemen and the region
. She reiterated the Kingdom’s initiative to end the war in Yemen and reach a comprehensive political solution.
Furthermore, in light of the tensions witnessed in the Red Sea region that affect the security and safety of international shipping lanes and global trade, the Kingdom renewed its call for wisdom, avoiding escalation, and strengthening joint efforts to preserve the security and stability of the Red Sea region. The Kingdom emphasized that freedom of navigation is an international demand that affects the interests of the entire world.
