Salalah: The 4th edition of the Salalah Engineering Forum, which concluded today, recommended the establishment of an integrated national platform to monitor the performance of engineering and logistics sectors.
According to Oman News Agency, the forum was organized by the Oman Society of Engineers in cooperation with the Ministry of Transport, Communications and Information Technology. The two-day conference brought together experts, engineers, and specialists in engineering, logistics, and supply chains.
The forum also put forward the idea of creating a unified digital platform that links projects to competencies and supply chains through accurate data, aiming to enhance efficiency and diminish bottlenecks. Another significant recommendation was the launch of a national engineering empowerment program for Omani youth. The forum advocated for adopting value engineering as a mandatory standard in major projects to ensure optimal value for money and reduce the rate of change orders.
In addition, the conference emphasized the importance of investing in artificial intelligence (AI) to improve efficiency, cut costs, and integrate digital risk management into supply chains. This includes using AI and Internet of Things technologies to predict risks and mitigate the effects of crises.
The sessions at the forum focused on boosting institutional integration and governance, empowering national talents, enhancing the sustainability of renewable energy, and improving the management of risks and digital transformation. The forum aimed to highlight the vital role of the logistics sector as a key driver in diversifying the national economy. It also sought to enhance the integration between ‘engineering and innovation’ with ‘logistics services’ to raise the efficiency of supply chains, cut down costs, and upgrade the Sultanate of Oman’s competitiveness regionally and globally.
