Salalah Engineering Forum Discusses Ways to Develop Logistics Sector

Salalah: The 4th edition of the Salalah Engineering Forum commenced today in Salalah, Dhofar Governorate. The two-day forum is organized by the Oman Society of Engineers (OSE) in collaboration with the Ministry of Transport, Communications and Information Technology. The opening ceremony was held under the auspices of Eng. Said Hamoud Al Maawali, Minister of Transport, Communications and Information Technology.

According to Oman News Agency, the forum is attended by experts, engineers, and specialists in the fields of engineering, logistics, and supply chains. It demonstrates OSE’s efforts to foster cooperation with both public and private sectors. The forum aims to address challenges and explore innovative solutions to modernize the logistics engineering system in Oman.

On the first day, 18 working papers were presented, focusing on applicable solutions, global practices, and international experiences beneficial to Oman’s logistics centers. Discussions included resilience in logistic networks to tackle challenges and crises, environmental protection against carbon footprints, and the development of human capital skills to empower national competencies and enhance operational efficiency in supply chains.

The forum underscores the logistics sector’s importance as a driver of economic diversification and seeks to integrate engineering and innovation with logistics services. This integration aims to improve supply chains and reduce costs.

Additionally, the forum aims to boost Oman’s competitiveness in regional and global markets by developing ports, airports, and free zones. The primary goal is to position Oman as a strategic gateway connecting the GCC with East Africa and Asia.
