Royal Decree Promulgates National Geospatial Data and Information Law

Muscat: His Majesty Sultan Haitham bin Tarik today issued Royal decree No. 43/2026 on promulgating the National Geospatial Data and Information Law, after presenting the same before the Council of Oman. The decree, which outlines the framework for managing geospatial data and information, will have several key implications for relevant authorities and stakeholders.

According to Oman News Agency, Article (1) of the decree specifies that the provisions of the National Geospatial Data and Information Law, attached to this decree, shall be enforced. This establishes a legal foundation for the management and utilization of geospatial data across various sectors.

Article (2) assigns the responsibility of issuing the executive bylaw for the attached law to the Deputy Prime Minister for Defence Affairs, along with necessary decisions for its enforcement. It also ensures that current regulations remain in effect until new measures are introduced, provided they do not conflict with the new law.

Article (3) mandates that entities subject to the law must adjust their status in alignment with its provisions within six months from its enforcement date. This requires organizations to ensure compliance with the new legal framework within a specified timeframe.

Article (4) nullifies any existing laws or regulations that are in contradiction with the new law, ensuring a harmonized legal environment for geospatial data governance.

Article (5) dictates that the decree will be published in the Official Gazette and shall take effect the day after its publication, emphasizing the immediacy of its implementation.
