Coinciding with the opening of the 4th edition of Riyadh Season, the world’s attention will be on the Saudi capital of Riyadh, which will host an exciting boxing match on October 28.
The match will feature the world heavyweight champion, Tyson Fury, against former Ultimate Fighting Championship (UFC) heavyweight champion, Francis Ngannou, in one of the most highly anticipated matches in history.
The match will take place in a regulated boxing ring in Riyadh, according to standard boxing rules. This follows an agreement between promotional companies Queensberry, Top Rank, and GIMIK Fight Promotions to collaborate with Riyadh Season in organizing this historic event, which boxing fans around the world are eagerly awaiting.
In a statement regarding this occasion, the Chairman of the Board of Directors of the General Entertainment Authority (GEA) and Chairman of Riyadh Season, Turki Al Al-Sheikh, said: “Riyadh Season 2023, in its fourth edition, will feature an exciting boxing match between two champions, Tyson Fury and Francis Ngannou, shortly after its opening. Such a match will set a new standard for this event, which maintains its status as one of the most anticipated entertainment seasons around the world.”
Meanwhile, the world boxing champion, Fury, announced his challenge to his opponent, stating: “I will never stop throwing punches and am excited to be back under the lights. It will be a historic battle.”
For his part, UFC world champion Ngannou said: “I have been eagerly awaiting a match with Tyson Fury in the ring for the past three years. Boxing has always been my dream, and I want to fight against the best. After becoming the rightful heavyweight champion of mixed martial arts (MMA), this is my opportunity to fulfil that dream. I am grateful to Riyadh Season and my team at 3Point0 Labs for their assistance in organizing this event.”
Frank Warren, the Chairman of Queensberry Promotions, indicated that this one-of-a-kind event would make history in Riyadh with a battle between two leading icons. “Tyson is the true king of the ring, and Ngannou will present an exciting challenge as he has the strongest punch in the world,” he said.
Bob Arum, the Chairman of the Board of Directors of 3Point0 Labs, emphasized that Fury is one of the greatest heavyweight boxers in history and has an opportunity to face a legend of mixed martial arts, which will be a historic event. “Fury will engage in a great battle, and residents of Riyadh and fans around the world will have a truly enjoyable experience,” he said.
Riyadh hosts one of the largest entertainment events in the world every year during the winter season.
Since the launch of Riyadh Season in 2019, the festival has welcomed visitors from all over the world to experience thousands of concerts, sporting events, food experiences, and other unique cultural activities.
Riyadh Season 2023 will begin on Saturday, October 28, with a spectacular opening ceremony and the historic boxing match between Fury and Ngannou.
