Hong kong: The organizing committee of Oman Desert Marathon has announced the opening of registration for its 11th edition, set to take place in the golden sands of Bidiyah, North A’Sharqiyah Governorate, during 10-14 January 2026. The event will witness the participation of elite runners from around the world, many of whom have already confirmed their attendance in next year’s competition.
According to Oman News Agency, the Oman Desert Marathon has gained international recognition as one of the world’s premier long-distance running events. This announcement follows featured coverage in Runner’s World Germany, one of the most prominent global magazines dedicated to running. The coverage marks a significant milestone, reinforcing the marathon’s status as a top-tier desert running event and highlighting Oman’s growing reputation as a prime destination for sports tourism and extreme endurance races.
Oman Desert Marathon has been officially accredited by SheRACES, a global organization advocating for inclusivity in long-distance running. This certification confirms that the marathon meets the highest international standards for women’s participation in endurance sports. Currently, women make up only 16% of participants in such races worldwide, despite their remarkable performances in road and mountain running events. Oman Desert Marathon is the first event in the Middle East to receive this unique accreditation.
