Muscat: Public satisfaction with the programming content of Oman Radio and TV has been quantified through a recent survey, showing a satisfaction rate of 76% for radio channels and 73% for TV channels.
According to Oman News Agency, the survey was conducted from 18 May 2025 to 18 June 2025 by the National Centre for Statistics and Information (NCSI) in collaboration with the Ministry of Information. The study aimed to assess public contentment with media programming and involved a comprehensive evaluation of various content types.
The survey revealed that satisfaction with TV content covering national occasions, religious events, and weather conditions stood at approximately 88%. Meanwhile, content focusing on raising awareness, government and tourism projects, social issues, and children’s programs scored around 69%. Omani viewers were particularly engaged with cultural and religious programs on Oman TV, such as ‘Matoun’, ‘Dhifaf’, and ‘Al Fahras’, as well as popular talk shows like ‘Al-Bayt’ (The House) and ‘Kunna Huna’ (We Were Here). Additionally, Ramadhan drama series such as ‘Al Waqeed’ and ‘Al-Madyoonir’ saw significant viewership.
For radio programming, satisfaction levels reached 88% for coverage of national occasions, religious events, and weather conditions. Content related to government and tourism projects, social issues, and children’s programs garnered around 74% satisfaction. The most favored radio content included religious programs, Ramadhan talk shows such as ‘Layali Ramadhan’ (Ramadhan Nights), and radio drama series including ‘Sawalif Al Jadd Hameed’, ‘Qala’ed Al-Yasmin’, ‘Dalshad’, and ‘Rihla Shaqqa’.
At the governorate level, South A’Sharqiyah recorded the highest satisfaction with radio content at 84%. Satisfaction levels were balanced between genders at 74%, with the age group of 30-49 registering 78% satisfaction. For TV content, the governorates of South A’Sharqiyah and A’Dakhiliyah reported the highest satisfaction rates at 76%, maintaining equal satisfaction between genders at 74%.
The survey sought to enhance communication between the Ministry of Information and the public by involving citizens in media evaluation. It aimed to contribute to content development and measure satisfaction with the quality and diversity of programming on Oman Radio and TV. Additionally, the survey intended to identify audience preferences concerning program types and media content, ensuring alignment with the aspirations and needs of various demographic and social groups.
