Muscat: The Permanent Committee for Statistics convened its first meeting of 2025 today under the chairmanship of Dr. Khalifa Abdullah Al Barwani, Chief Executive Officer of the National Centre for Statistics and Information (NCSI), with the participation of committee members representing various government entities involved in the statistical sector.
According to Oman News Agency, the committee discussed the agenda’s items, including follow-up on the implementation of decisions issued by the previous meeting held on 30 September 2024. Members also deliberated on a proposal to introduce a new statistical indicator, the Unit Value Index of Exports and Imports, as well as a presentation on the Office for the Management of the National Statistics and Information Strategy 2025-2030.
The meeting further addressed the results of the 2024 Arrivals and Departures Survey, the Oman Economic Performance Index as a tool for analyzing and evaluating economic trends, and the use of open data as a driver of digital transformation and decision-making support.
The session concluded with an emphasis on the importance of advancing national statistical work and enhancing integration among government entities, in line with the aspirations of comprehensive development and the objectives of Oman Vision 2040.
It is worth noting that the Permanent Committee is responsible for coordinating statistical programs and activities at the national level, setting priorities in accordance with government needs, overseeing the implementation of annual programs and projects, and standardizing concepts, definitions, classifications, and methodologies. The committee also supports and encourages dedicated studies and research.
