Pakistan: 33 Dead, Millions Affected Due to Floods in Punjab

Muscat: Pakistan’s Provincial Disaster Management Authority (PDMA) Director General Irfan Ali announced that the massive floods that have swept through parts of Punjab province in eastern Pakistan have resulted in the death of 33 people and affected more than two million others. He added that about half a million people have been evacuated to safe areas as the severe floods continue to submerge vast areas of Punjab, noting that relief and rescue operations are still ongoing.

According to Oman News Agency, the floods and heavy rains, since June 26, resulted in the deaths of 854 people and injuries to 1,130 others across Pakistan. He stated that more than 800 boats and 1,300 rescue personnel are participating in the evacuation operations from the affected areas, most of which are in rural regions near the banks of major rivers in Punjab.

He pointed out that three major rivers in Punjab are recording dangerous levels, affirming that special relief camps have been established in parts of the province to provide
food, shelter, and basic health services to those affected.
