Omantel Unveils Otech to Drive Oman’s Digital Transformation and Economy

Muscat: Omantel today launched "Otech," a new initiative positioned as the Provider of Technologies of the Future and an Enabler of Digital Transformation. This launch is part of national efforts to accelerate digital transformation and bolster an integrated digital economy, aligning with strategic directions to unify technological capabilities and investments.

According to Oman News Agency, the initiative was unveiled during a ceremony at the Royal Opera House Muscat, under the patronage of Abdulsalam Mohammed Al Murshidi, Chairman of Oman Investment Authority. The event was attended by representatives from both public and private sectors, as well as specialists and experts in technology and digital transformation.

Mulhim bin Bashir Al Jarf, Deputy Chairman of Oman Investment Authority for Investment and Chairman of the Board of Directors of Omantel, emphasized that the launch of Otech consolidates Omantel's position as an integrated digital technology company. It reflects a strategic transition from a telecommunications operator to a technology model that fosters innovation and enables the digital economy. This transformation aligns with Oman Vision 2040 and the Eleventh Five-Year Plan, focusing on digital economy and technology-based sector development.

Eng. Aladdin Abdullah Baitfadhil, CEO of Omantel and Chairman of Otech, stated that Otech marks a significant shift in both the company's journey and Oman's digital sector. It underlines Omantel's commitment to advancing national digital transformation by establishing a unified technology ecosystem focused on innovation and competitiveness, in line with national economic diversification directives.

Eng. Maqbool Salim Al Wahaibi, Acting CEO of Otech, highlighted the integration of Oman Data Park within the Otech ecosystem as a leap in digital infrastructure development. The company plans to leverage its expertise in data centers and cloud services to support public and private institutions with high-quality solutions, accelerating digital transformation and strengthening data localization in Oman.

During the launch, several strategic partnerships were announced, showcasing Otech's ecosystem expansion. These include collaborations with Oracle, PwC, Nagarro, Palo Alto Networks, and Fortinet, among others, targeting hyperscale computing, cybersecurity, systems integration, and AI-driven solutions.

The launch of Otech is in response to the growing ICT services market, anticipated to grow strongly due to government digital transformation initiatives and the expanding digital economy, aligned with Oman Vision 2040's diversified economic goals.

Otech represents Omantel's strategic shift from a telecom operator to a comprehensive technology provider. This transformation includes building national capabilities, opening technical career pathways, and offering training programs to prepare Omani talent for leading digital transformation and future technology projects.
