Paris: The Sultanate of Oman has highlighted the critical need for enhanced international cooperation to ensure the continuity of education during crises. This declaration was made during its active participation in the 224th session of the UNESCO Executive Board, held from April 8 to 23.
According to Oman News Agency, Ambassador Amna Salim Al Balushi, the Permanent Delegate of Oman to UNESCO, addressed the plenary sessions, emphasizing the escalating challenges faced by the Arab region. She pointed to conflicts and infrastructure attacks, particularly in Palestine and Lebanon, as major disruptors of the educational process. Al Balushi called for a coordinated international effort to address these issues effectively.
The ambassador reiterated Oman's commitment to peaceful resolutions and dialogue to reinforce security and stability in compliance with international law. She highlighted education as a top national priority under Oman Vision 2040 and noted Oman's active role in international educational initiatives and leadership within UNESCO.
Al Balushi also stressed UNESCO's vital role in protecting cultural heritage and diversity, particularly in conflict areas. She expressed support for the "UNESCO 80" initiative aimed at improving the organization's governance and effectiveness.
In her concluding remarks, Ambassador Al Balushi reaffirmed Oman's dedication to UNESCO's mission, underscoring the belief that fostering peace, advancing knowledge, and preserving culture are essential for a sustainable and secure future.
