Muscat: The activities of Oman Society of Emergency Medicine Conference (OSEM26) commenced today under the theme "Elevating Excellence in Emergency Care: Innovation, Integration, and Impact." The three-day event features extensive participation from doctors, nurses, researchers, and emergency healthcare specialists from both within the Sultanate of Oman and abroad.
According to Oman News Agency, Dr. Hassan Issa Al Balushi, Consultant in Emergency Medicine and Toxicology and Chairman of the Organizing Committee for OSEM26, emphasized that emergency medicine represents a humanitarian mission before being a medical specialty. He noted that this field deals with critical moments where time is a decisive factor and decisions carry a responsibility that leaves no room for error.
He explained that the conference is being held this year under the theme "Elevating Excellence in Emergency Care: Innovation, Integration, and Impact," confirming that the slogan reflects a realistic approach aimed at developing emergency care, enhancing innovation in practices, integrating the roles of medical teams, and achieving a tangible impact.
He pointed out that the scientific program of the conference was designed to translate this slogan into practice, featuring 62 scientific lectures presented by 72 local and international experts in various fields of emergency medicine. This is in addition to six advanced workshops focusing on clinical skills, decision-making under critical conditions, and working within multi-disciplinary teams, with participation from speakers from several countries, which enhances the exchange of expertise and keeps pace with global developments in the field.
He added that the conference is also witnessing the submission and review of more than 40 scientific research papers, 30 of which are being showcased in the accompanying scientific exhibition to support the culture of scientific research and knowledge exchange among specialists.
The conference serves as an advanced scientific platform aimed at discussing the latest scientific and applied developments in emergency medicine, enhancing the quality of emergency healthcare, and elevating clinical practices according to the latest globally approved scientific evidence.
OSEM26 includes a rich scientific program spanning three days, featuring a group of specialized educational and applied tracks covering a wide spectrum of emergency medicine fields. The conference reviews more than 30 scientific research papers presented by researchers and specialists from various countries, highlighting the latest studies, clinical trials, and innovative practices in emergency medicine.
OSEM26 aims to enhance the professional competencies of those working in the field of emergency medicine, support the exchange of scientific expertise, stimulate research and professional development, and build local, regional, and international scientific partnerships that contribute to improving patient safety and the quality of emergency healthcare in the Sultanate of Oman and the region.
Prior to the official scientific sessions, several specialized applied training workshops were organized, focusing on developing the practical skills of participants and raising the level of clinical readiness for dealing with critical cases through realistic scenarios simulating the work environment in emergency departments.
The workshops covered advanced areas, including Non-Invasive Ventilation (NIV), Advanced Electrocardiogram (ECG) analysis, pediatric critical care, Point-of-Care Ultrasound (POCUS) in emergency and critical cases, as well as disaster medicine and emergency response, among other training programs.
The conference reaffirms its position as one of the most prominent specialized scientific conferences in emergency medicine and its pivotal role in supporting the sustainable development of this vital specialty in line with the aspirations of the national health system and global best practices.
The opening of the conference was held under the auspices of Dr. Abdullah Hamoud Al Harthy, Undersecretary of the Ministry of Social Development for Persons with Disabilities.
