Muscat: For the second year in a row, the Sultanate of Oman has been elected as Near East Regional Coordinator at the international food standards body Codex Alimentarius Commission (CAC). Oman secured the position during the 12th meeting of the joint Coordinating Committee of the Food and Agriculture Organization (FAO) and the World Health Organization (WHO). The country is hosting the two-day meeting, which concludes tomorrow.
According to Oman News Agency, the unanimous vote underscores global recognition for Oman’s pivotal role in advancing food safety and quality systems. This election reinforces Oman’s ongoing commitment to support technical cooperation and unify regional positions within the Codex Alimentarius Commission.
The appointment also highlights Oman’s active participation in developing international standards related to food safety. It plays a key role in enhancing consumer health and facilitating food trade at both regional and international levels.
