Oman Engages in GCC Food Security Committee Meeting via Videoconference

Muscat: The Sultanate of Oman, represented by the Ministry of Agriculture, Fisheries and Water Resources, participated via videoconference in the extraordinary meeting of the GCC Agricultural Cooperation and Food Security Committee. Dr. Saud Hamoud Al Habsi, Minister of Agriculture, Fisheries and Water Resources, led the Omani delegation at the meeting.

According to Oman News Agency, the meeting gathered ministers and officials responsible for food security affairs across the GCC states to discuss mechanisms aimed at strengthening Gulf integration in the food security sector. The dialogue included a review of a proposal to conduct a study for the establishment of strategic storage zones for food, pharmaceuticals, and other essential supplies, aiming to enhance preparedness and reinforce supply chain sustainability among GCC member states.

The meeting also considered a proposal to develop a joint Gulf framework for food security support among GCC countries. It was decided to hold a workshop for specialists from member states to review the study plan, exchange national expertise and experiences, and formulate necessary conceptual frameworks to support the project's implementation and achieve its objectives.

This meeting is part of the GCC member states' ongoing efforts to advance joint Gulf action, further develop the food security system, and enhance coordination and integration to achieve food security and sustainability for the Council's member countries.
