Geneva: The Sultanate of Oman is actively participating in the 28th session of the Commission on Science and Technology for Development, currently underway in Geneva, Switzerland. This session addresses the theme of diversifying economies amidst rapid digitalization, while also exploring technology foresight and assessing the impact on sustainable development.
According to Oman News Agency, Oman highlighted its strategic initiative, Oman Vision 2040, during its address at the meeting. This vision emphasizes the importance of education, learning, research, and national capabilities, with the primary goal of fostering competitive national skills that contribute to a knowledge-based society.
Oman Vision 2040 is structured around various indicators related to the knowledge economy, skills development, global innovation, human capital investment, modern technology, digital transformation, and the enhancement of Omani higher education institutions. The Sultanate’s speech at the session reinforced the government’s commitment to education, research, innovation, and community service, under the guidance of His Majesty Sultan Haitham bin Tarik.
The government is focused on achieving these goals by formulating policies and establishing legal frameworks to advance the education sector and build sustainable research and innovation capacities within educational institutions. This approach aims to propel the nation towards realizing a knowledge-based economy.
