Muscat:The Sultanate of Oman and the Republic of the Union of Myanmar have signed an air services agreement designed to regulate air transport between the two countries and bolster cooperation in the civil aviation sector. This agreement aims to support the expansion of air connectivity networks and explore new avenues for collaboration in transport and air services.

According to Oman News Agency, the agreement was signed by Eng. Naif bin Ali Al Abri, Chairman of the Civil Aviation Authority (CAA) of Oman, and U Zaw Zaw, Director General of the Department of Civil Aviation of Myanmar.

The agreement includes 26 articles and an annex on air routes, addressing economic, regulatory, and operational aspects related to air transport services. It sets frameworks for designated national airlines to operate passenger and cargo flights according to agreed terms and regulations. Additionally, it opens up more opportunities for code-sharing on joint flights, enhancing travel options for passengers and promoting operational efficiency. It also aims to boost commercial cooperation between the airlines of both nations.

This accord marks a significant step in strengthening Oman-Myanmar ties in civil aviation by establishing a legal and regulatory framework that governs air transport rights. It supports service development and maximizes opportunities available to both countries.

Oman continues to expand its network of air transport relations and currently holds bilateral air transport agreements with 135 countries. This reflects Oman's dedication to leveraging international expertise, providing regulatory frameworks for the civil aviation sector, and facilitating the growth of airline services.
