Novel Compounds Show Promise Against Cancer, Diabetes, Hypertension

Omsk: A research team from Omsk University and the Institute of Theoretical and Experimental Biophysics of the Russian Academy of Sciences has developed a new method that could aid the development of drugs for cancer, diabetes, and high blood pressure. According to Oman News Agency, the researchers successfully created a mechanism for synthesizing biologically active pyridin-2-one derivatives-compounds widely used as the foundation for many medications targeting diabetes, hypertension, and cancer. This development was shared by a university source to Russia Today. The novel technique allows precise control over molecular structure by modifying reaction conditions, thereby opening new avenues for designing molecules with tailored properties. Cytotoxicity tests conducted on the BT474 human breast cancer cell line demonstrated that several of the synthesized compounds significantly reduced cancer cell activity. The results indicated that toxicity levels were linked to the nature of molecular substituents, w hile morphological studies confirmed cancer cell death under the influence of the developed compounds. In contrast, control samples remained viable.
