The National Center for Vegetation Cover Development and Combating Desertification (NCVC), in partnership with the Ministry of Environment, Water, and Agriculture, the United Nations Convention to Combat Desertification (UNCCD), and the United Nations Development Programme Saudi Arabia, will hold a workshop on monitoring the dynamics of land productivity and trends in soil organic carbon stocks in highly arid areas.
The workshop, scheduled to take place in Riyadh from August 26 to 28, will be attended by international experts. It aligns with Saudi Arabia’s ongoing efforts to address desertification and drought, and their adverse impact on the environment and society. It also serves as a preparatory step for COP 16, which will be held in Riyadh in December and will focus on land degradation and soil organic carbon in arid regions.
NCVC is dedicated to protecting, monitoring, and rehabilitating degraded vegetation sites across Saudi Arabia. It also combats illegal logging and invests in pasture lands, fores
ts, and national parks to promote sustainable development and achieve the objectives of the Saudi Green Initiative.
