National Talents Lead Scientific Committees at 2024 International Chemistry Olympiad

Discovering and nurturing scientific talent demands significant dedication and effort, while preparing these young minds for international competitions requires a perfect blend of excellence and readiness. The King Abdulaziz and His Companions Foundation for Giftedness and Creativity (Mawhiba) is committed to identifying exceptional boy and girl students, providing an environment to cultivate their abilities, and empowering them to excel in international Olympiads and global competitions.

As the 2024 International Chemistry Olympiad unfolds in Riyadh with 333 talented students from 90 countries, the Kingdom’s first participation in this prestigious event in 2011 marked the beginning of a remarkable chapter. Today, those same talented individuals have transitioned from competitors to esteemed members of the scientific committees judging the very Olympiad they once graced. This remarkable transformation exemplifies the power of talent development and professional growth.

Raad Al-Qahtani, a chemical engineerin
g specialist and member of the Olympiad’s scientific committee, shared with the Saudi Press Agency her transformative five-year journey with Mawhiba. This intensive program ignited her passion for chemistry, providing world-class training and expertise that propelled her to competitive success and leadership roles.

Committee member Lina Al-Shamasi recounted her path to success, beginning with the Mawhiba test in 2019. Through subsequent forums and challenges, she honed her scientific and theoretical chemistry skills. Today, she contributes to the Olympiad by overseeing scientific tests, evaluating questions, and collaborating with international steering committees.

The International Chemistry Olympiad, the world’s premier competition for secondary school students, rotates annually between different countries. This year, under the theme “Build the Bonds,” the King Abdulaziz and His Companions Foundation for Giftedness and Creativity proudly hosts the event in Riyadh.
