Ministry of Islamic Affairs Holds 1st Quran Memorization Competition in Sri Lanka

The Ministry of Islamic Affairs, Dawah and Guidance, in coordination with the Kingdom's Embassy in Sri Lanka and in cooperation with the Department of Muslim Religious and Cultural Affairs (DMRCA) at the Sri Lankan Ministry of Religions, is organizing the first Holy Quran memorization competition in Sri Lanka.

The preliminary qualifications ended today; 1,500 students of both genders participated in eight branches, and 240 from Arabic schools and Quran memorization centers qualified for the finals.

The Sri Lankan capital, Colombo, will host the final stage of the competition, in which the arbitration committees, consisting of 30 members, most of them certified in the 10 readings, will evaluate the contestants in two shifts, morning and evening.

The first five winners in each of the eight branches bring the total number of winners to 40. They will be honored at a ceremony to be held at the Shangri-La Hotel, Colombo, on July 17, 2023. Senior officials are expected to participate in the ceremony.
