Ministry of Information to Premiere Documentary on American Doctor Thoms

Muscat: The Ministry of Information is set to premiere the documentary "Dakhtar Thoms or Dr. Thoms" tomorrow (Wednesday) at its theatre. This event will be attended by media figures, intellectuals, historians, and cultural content creators.

According to Oman News Agency, the documentary explores the life of American physician Wells Thoms, who played a significant role in the history of healthcare in the Sultanate of Oman. The film combines historical narration, re-enacted dramatic scenes, archival materials, and footage shot in both Oman and the United States.

The documentary highlights key milestones in the medical and humanitarian work of Wells Thoms, locally known as "Dakhtar Thoms," and documents a significant chapter in Oman's social and health transformation.

The Ministry of Information aims to strengthen national documentary production by offering visual narratives of modern Omani history. This initiative combines academic research, creative storytelling, and contemporary digital techniques to preserve national memory. Previous projects include the three-part documentary "Beit Al Ajaib" (House of Wonders) and the Oman TV programme "Walana Athar," which highlights notable Omani figures.

The ministry's "Ayn" platform also features audiobooks and audio-visual programmes focusing on Omani history. Additionally, plans are underway for a feature film about the historic voyage of the Omani vessel "Sultana."
