Muscat: The Ministry of Energy and Minerals, represented by Oman Net-Zero Center, signed two significant agreements today as part of the first package of the Energy Efficiency Program in Government Buildings. This initiative took place during Oman Sustainability Week at the Oman Convention and Exhibition Center, marking a pivotal step in the nation's efforts to enhance energy consumption efficiency and reduce carbon emissions in government facilities. This aligns with the Sultanate of Oman's ambitious goal to achieve net-zero emissions by 2050. The first agreement involved an energy performance contract with Enova Facilities and Energy Management Company, while the second agreement focused on implementing energy efficiency measures with Sultan Qaboos University.
According to Oman News Agency, the Ministry of Energy and Minerals also signed subscription agreements for the "Meezan" platform with several national companies and institutions from different sectors. The platform is designed to be the central national digital infrastructure for managing greenhouse gas data. These agreements underline the Ministry and Oman Net-Zero Center's dedication to establishing an advanced national digital framework that supports emissions inventory and management, as well as the registration of carbon credits. This initiative aims to enhance the competitiveness of the private sector, enabling a shift from mere disclosure and monitoring towards active emissions management. It also aims to leverage economic opportunities associated with transitioning to a low-carbon economy.
In addition to these agreements, the Ministry of Energy and Minerals launched the updated version of the "Kwader" platform, formerly known as "Petrojobs." This update is part of the national strategy for digital transformation and aims to improve the efficiency of government services, aligning with the objectives of Oman Vision 2040. The platform serves as a unified electronic recruitment platform for the oil and gas sector in Oman, designed to streamline and enhance recruitment processes through a centralized interface that connects job seekers with employers based on clear and transparent criteria.
Moreover, the Ministry unveiled the "Makmn" platform, a strategic open data platform aimed at enhancing access to data from the oil and gas exploration and production sector in Oman. It targets operating companies, oil services firms, academic institutions, and researchers in the field. The "Makmn" platform features a comprehensive database that includes well data, seismic survey data, and supporting technical documents, thereby providing an advanced digital environment that supports research, studies, and informed decision-making.
