Ministry of Culture Organizes Symposium on Educational Sciences, Sustainable Development

Muscat: The Ministry of Culture, Sports and Youth today organized a symposium titled “Culture, Sciences (Educational Sciences) and Sustainable Development” at the Literary Forum Hall in Muscat Governorate. The event featured Dr. Saif Nasser Al Maamari, a Professor of Curriculum and Teaching Methods at Sultan Qaboos University’s College of Education, with Dr. Huda bint Nasser Al Busaidi moderating the discussions.

According to Oman News Agency, the symposium was part of the “Civilizational Horizons” program, an initiative by the Literary Forum aimed at fostering cultural and intellectual discourse. It served as a platform for intellectuals and cultural stakeholders in Oman to discuss and exchange expertise on the interconnections between culture, science, and sustainable human development. The discussions traced the evolution of these concepts across different cultural and social contexts, with a particular focus on Oman’s experience over the past fifty years.

The symposium specifically delved into the role of educational sciences, exploring their integration into the Omani context and their interaction with local values and knowledge systems. The discussions underscored the importance of education in achieving sustainable human development goals, highlighting its priority status in “Oman Vision 2040” and related strategies. The influence of local culture on education and scientific research in the country was also a key topic of exploration.

The Civilizational Horizons program, which supports scientific research, creativity, innovation, and the development of a knowledge economy, aligns with the objectives of the 2021-2040 Cultural Strategy. This includes strategic priorities such as “Citizenship, Identity, Heritage and National Culture” and “Education, Learning, Scientific Research and National Capabilities.”
