MEWA Oversees Madinah Dates Season Auctions

The central dates market auctions in the Madinah Region is currently promoting the yield from local farmers, displaying over 28 local date varieties as part of the Madinah Dates Season.

The Ministry of Environment, Water, and Agriculture (MEWA) Madinah branch teams monitor compliance with regulations through continuous inspections. Utilizing 180 cameras, they oversee the market facilities and the unloading and sorting processes until the dates leave the market.

To streamline the supply and sale of dates and boost productivity, the market uses a seasonal system that helps farmers and buyers reach clear and fair agreements. The system also enables marketers to keep track of contract details, handle business matters, and monitor finances accurately.

The central market remains a key exporter of dates to various countries. MEWA has designated specific areas for exporters to cater to both local and international market demands. The over 6.5 million date palms in Madinah that yield an annual production exceeding 263,000 tons contribute significantly to food security, while the export of dates aligns with Saudi Vision 2030 goal of diversifying the economy.
