Muscat: Knowledge Oasis Muscat (KOM), the technology arm of the Public Establishment for Industrial Estates ‘Madayn’, has successfully localized 27 new projects in 2024, securing investments exceeding RO 28 million over a total area of 48,000 sqm. This initiative aligns with KOM’s continuous efforts to transform the Sultanate of Oman into a vibrant, knowledge-based economy focused on diversity, growth, and sustainability.
According to Oman News Agency, Eng. Jaafar Al Ajmi, Director General of KOM, reported that the cumulative investment volume at KOM has reached RO 312,520,205 by the end of 2024. The number of projects has now exceeded 200, employing 2,621 individuals and occupying a total area of 759,566 sqm.
Al Ajmi also highlighted Madayn’s future development plans for KOM, which include constructing a multi-storey parking facility and establishing a solar PV power plant with a capacity of 1.4 MW. Additional completed projects include service works linked to the Ring Road project, the launch of a smart mobility service via e-scooters within KOM, the development of the KOM pedestrian walkway (Boulevard Zone), and the installation of a new security fence around KOM.
In support of Madayn’s broader smart city initiatives, Al Ajmi mentioned that KOM has recently conducted a successful field test of the RTK GNSS L700H tablet, a sophisticated GIS device for surveying and locating facilities and infrastructure. Furthermore, KOM has collaborated with Drone First Company to trial the use of drones in building cleaning operations, aiming to conserve water, utilize eco-friendly materials, and advance sustainability in facility management. This collaboration is expected to enhance safety by minimizing human intervention in high-risk environments and align with global trends through smart, efficient solutions.
