Turaif, The King Salman bin Abdulaziz Royal Natural Reserve (KSRNR) serves as a vital stopover for hundreds of migratory birds each year. Located in northern Saudi Arabia, it is the Kingdom’s largest nature reserve, sprawling over 130,000 square kilometers.
The reserve’s diverse habitats provide a safe haven for nearly 290 bird species, including the critically endangered Houbara bustard. These migratory birds find food and shelter during their long journeys within the protected environment. The reserve also acts as a breeding ground for many resident bird species, offering a secure place to raise young.
The KSRNR development authority is committed to ecological balance and prioritizes the protection of endangered species. This includes implementing conservation programs, meticulously monitoring bird populations, and actively mitigating threats. Experts and field teams play a crucial role, with a particular focus on the Houbara bustard, a bird of significant environmental and historical importance for Saudi
Arabia. The reserve provides a safe space for these birds to nest and breed naturally.
KSRNR’s dedication extends beyond migratory birds. The reserve actively restores natural habitats, promotes biodiversity, and reintroduces endangered species. These initiatives contribute to Saudi Arabia’s Vision 2030, which focuses on improving the quality of life for all.
