Muscat: The health sector in the Governorate of North A'Sharqiyah has undergone major growth in line with the objectives of Oman Vision 2040. The governorate's outstanding health system has become a basic pillar of sustainable development by improving the quality of life for more than 320,000 people in the Governorate's wilayats of Ibra, Al Mudhaibi, Bidiya, Al Qabil, Wadi Bani Khalid, Dima W'Attayeen and Sinaw.
According to Oman News Agency, the development of the health sector addresses the governorate's extensive geographical area and the rapid growth in terms of population and urban expansion. The health sector succeeded in three key ways: bringing services closer to the population through the establishment of new hospitals and health centres, offering new specialized services that had not been available in the wilayats before, and making health services a factor in the stability of groups operating in economic sectors like farming and tourism.
The health sector in the governorate recently made tangible progress in specialized services, including corneal transplants, shoulder joint replacement, and damaged eardrum repair. More than 100 surgeries were conducted for the treatment of morbid obesity, cutting down waiting lists and reducing the rate of referral to hospitals outside the governorate.
Progress in the health sector's infrastructure development included the opening of Al Jarda Health Centre, the expansion of Wadi Bani Khalid Hospital, the completion of construction tasks at the health centres of Ibra and Al Mudhaibi, and the commencement of technical works at the two centres' medical wings.
