Immune System’s Early Decline in Inflammation Sensitivity Discovered by Russian Researchers

Muscat: Researchers at Sechenov University in Russia, in collaboration with the Institute of Fundamental and Clinical Immunology in Novosibirsk, have found that immune cells start losing their sensitivity to inflammatory signals between the ages of 30 and 40. This discovery suggests a much earlier onset than previously believed, potentially leading to new strategies for preventing age-related diseases. According to Oman News Agency, the study highlights how aging contributes to chronic inflammation, presenting a paradox where inflammatory signals increase but cellular responses diminish. This is attributed to a reduction in cytokine receptors on the surface of innate immune cells. The research involved analyzing blood samples from 144 healthy donors, divided into two age categories: 18 to 31 years and 32 to 59 years. The study measured the expression of important inflammatory cytokine receptors, such as interleukin-1 and tumor necrosis factor, on immune cells. The results indicate a complex reorganization of the immune response beginning earlier than expected by scientists. This opens avenues for preventive strategies and personalized therapies aimed at reducing the impact of age-related diseases. ZCZ
