Muscat: His Majesty Sultan Haitham bin Tarik has issued two Royal Decrees aimed at establishing new Special Economic Zones in Oman, as announced today.
According to Oman News Agency, Royal Decree No. 87/2025 establishes a Special Economic Zone in the Governorate of A’Dhahirah. Article (1) specifies that the zone will be located in the Wilayat of Ibri and will be named ‘The Special Economic Zone in the Governorate of A’Dhahirah.’ The Board of Directors of the Public Authority for Special Economic Zones and Free Zones is tasked with appointing the managing, operating, and developing party for this zone as per Article (2). Existing projects within this zone will benefit from incentives and advantages outlined in the Law on Special Economic Zones and Free Zones, as stated in Article (3). The decree will be published in the Official Gazette and becomes effective the day after publication, according to Article (4).
Royal Decree No. 88/2025 creates another Special Economic Zone in Al Rawdhah, situated in the Wilayat of Mahadha in the Governorate of Al Buraimi. Article (1) designates the area as ‘The Special Economic Zone in Al Rawdhah.’ Similar to the decree for A’Dhahirah, the Board of Directors of the Public Authority for Special Economic Zones and Free Zones will appoint the managing, operating, and developing party for this zone, as outlined in Article (2). Article (3) mentions that existing projects will receive incentives, advantages, and exemptions as provided in the Law on Special Economic Zones and Free Zones. Article (4) indicates that this decree will also be published in the Official Gazette and enforced the day after its publication.
