Muscat: His Majesty Sultan Haitham bin Tarik and President Recep Tayyip Erdogan of the Republic of Trkiye have underscored the necessity of forming the Omani-Turkish Coordinating Council. This council is designed to provide a structured framework for overseeing and implementing memoranda of understanding and agreements between the two nations, with an eye towards broadening cooperation across multiple sectors.
According to Oman News Agency, during President Erdogan’s state visit to the Sultanate of Oman on October 22-23, 2025, the two leaders engaged in official discussions aimed at enriching bilateral relations and expanding areas of mutual cooperation. The visit was marked by the signing of several agreements covering media, investment, technology, industry, and education, among other fields. Both sides expressed a strong desire to enhance trade and industrial cooperation, as well as to foster public-private partnerships.
The establishment of the Omani-Turkish Coordinating Council was announced as a pivot
al step to ensure the effective implementation of agreements and to enhance bilateral cooperation in diverse sectors. Both nations also reiterated their support for ongoing negotiations on the Free Trade Agreement between Trkiye and the GCC states, aiming to boost economic ties.
In an effort to facilitate travel and strengthen bilateral relations, the Republic of Trkiye decided to exempt Omani citizens from pre-entry visas, and Oman reciprocated by granting the same exemption to Turkish citizens. Cultural, academic, and artistic exchanges were also highlighted as key areas for further development.
The two leaders also discussed regional and international issues, expressing a shared commitment to peace and stability. They welcomed the ceasefire in Gaza and the positive progress towards a two-state solution, with gratitude extended to mediating countries like Egypt, Qatar, the USA, and Trkiye for their efforts.
